On 30 January 2026, a comprehensive Cancer Awareness & Early Detection Camp was conducted at the Smart Clothing Garment Factory located in Sunkadakatte, Bengaluru, specifically targeting factory workers who often lack access to regular preventive healthcare services. Industrial workers, particularly women in garment units, are at increased risk of delayed diagnosis due to long working hours, limited health awareness, and financial constraints.

The camp was organized in collaboration with the Indian Cancer Society to bring structured cancer screening services directly to the workplace. Medical professionals set up designated screening stations within the factory premises to ensure privacy, comfort, and efficiency.

Services included oral cancer screening (particularly important for individuals with tobacco use habits), clinical breast examinations, cervical cancer screening including HPV testing, general health check-ups, and confidential one-on-one medical consultations. Awareness sessions were conducted to educate workers about early warning signs of cancer, the importance of regular screening, lifestyle risk factors, and preventive measures. Special emphasis was placed on self-breast examination techniques and tobacco cessation counselling.

Workers identified with suspicious symptoms or requiring further diagnostic evaluation were provided referral guidance for advanced medical assessment at partnered healthcare facilities. The initiative not only addressed early detection but also worked toward reducing stigma and fear associated with cancer screening in low-income working communities.

By bringing preventive oncology services directly to the workplace in Sunkadakatte, this project strengthened access to early diagnosis and empowered women and workers with critical health knowledge.
